Book Proposal Bootcamp

The path to getting your book published begins with a good proposal. You may have a completed dissertation, a few rough book chapters, or even journal articles you’d like to transform into a coherent book project—but where do you start? Join Badia Ahad-Legardy, PhD for a workshop in which you will translate your research projects for a broader market, learn how to “sell” your book to academic presses, and have a completed book proposal ready to send to your preferred presses.

Part I – Writing the Project Description (aka “the heart and soul of the proposal”)

Part II
– Developing Your Chapter Outlines: How to Shape Your “Story”

Part III – Know Your Market and Craft Your Market Analysis: How to Make Your Book “Sellable”

Part IV – Proposing Your Proposal: Choosing the Right Press and Getting Your Proposal into the Hands of an Editor

During this four-hour workshop, you will work through your written draft of the proposal step-by-step: we will discuss translating your research projects for a broader market, “selling” your book to academic presses, determining the target market for your manuscript and, at the end of our session, you will have a completed book proposal to send to your preferred presses.

Workshop Includes

  • On-site peer review
  • Group accountability
  • In-depth guidance and instruction for how to approach each stage of the publishing process–from proposal to marketing

This four-hour workshop is ideal for

  • administrators who want to support a large number of scholars at once
  • scholars in ANY discipline who wants to pursue an academic book project and who has a conceptual idea of the completed project.
